Gobble, Gobble....Turkey Day!

Thanksgiving 2011 was a year of amazing friends who have become much more like family. Paul started the morning at a Turkey Bowl! He played with a few of your close friends and from what I hear he had a blast (it was raining so I opted to stay inside). After that we came home and showered (while he soaked his whites in spray and wash in an attempt to get some of the caked in mud off), then headed to Paige & Patrick's for a mini Thanksgiving day brunch. Paige made a delicious cinnamon role cake. While I only had a bite it was to die for. Alicia, Kate, Addison, & Patrick's parents were all there as well. It was a fun morning of laughs and visiting.

When trying to decide what we wanted to do for Thanksgiving we decided to go to Famous Dave's. They do a wonderful smoked turkey dinner that Paul is a big fan of, and I can either choose to get turkey or to get something else.

We had a reservation at 2 and away we went.

When we arrived at 2 we sat down and ordered our drinks. At that point I asked if it would be possible to just order a side of stuffing. The server went to ask the manager when he came back he stated

"Well I have good news & bad news....the good news is, you can order a side of stuffing! The bad news is we are out of turkey for the next hour...."

Well... seeing as this is Thanksgiving and we CAME here to get Turkey we were quite put off. We told our server that we had wanted to do some shopping at Old Navy and that we were going to go over there and come back at 3. He apologized over and over and said that sounded like a good plan.

***1 hour passes***

We arrive back at Famous Dave's & sit down again for the second time. We order our drinks and the server(a different one from before) comes back and takes our orders. I order my chicken tenders & Paul orders the turkey dinner. She looks at us and says "Oh, I'm sorry, the Turkey wont' be ready for 45 minutes." You can imagine our frustration at this point. We calmly explained that we had originally arrived at 2 and had been told that the turkey would be ready at 3. She said she would go speak with her manager (maybe he had a secret reserve of turkey). She came back and said "Okay, turkey will be ready in 20 minutes and can I offer you an appetizer on the house."

We ordered our appetizer and sat to wait.

***half an hour passes***

Our appetizer was wonderful (Onion strings) and we were anxious for our food. Ta-Da! Our server brings our food. She places it in front of us and says "Okay... here is this, but the turkey is going to be another 20 minutes or so...." I look at Paul's plate and am shocked to see that they've given him all of his sides and fixings but NO TURKEY! She turns to Paul and says... "Could I bring you a roasted chicken on the side while you wait?" Well... Paul being Paul says "Sure, why not."

He promptly received his roasted chicken breast a few minutes later and we began our Thanksgiving meal.

***25 minutes passes***

Paul has finished all of his chicken and almost all of his fixings and I am ready for a box at this point. Our server returns and says "Would you like me to make your turkey to go?" We say that would be great and begin packing up our food. She returns with his boxed up turkey and 2 pieces of pie (only his meal came with a pie so she gave me a free one), she turns to us and says "I spoke with my manager and told him your situation and he has picked up your whole check."

Wahoo! Free meal! It was nice to see that our server (Lisa) at Famous Dave's worked so hard to fix a situation that she had little control over. We almost got up a few times to leave in frustration, but all in all we have a good story and we got a wonderful meal out of it.

The day ended with time with The Marley's and some last minute shopping at Bed Bath & Beyond. We got an awesome Family Tree/Picture Set/Wall decor set for the baby's room.

Such a wonderful day with so much to be thankful for, though mainly I am thankful for my health as well as my Family's health. My dad was recently declared a "Zero" by his oncologist which means there are ZERO cancer cells in his bone marrow. From here on out it's just monitoring his blood and numbers, no more drugs, no more treatments. If there is one thing to be eternally grateful for this year, it is my amazing parents, my dad who is so strong and my mom who is such an amazing support to all of us.

Much love to everyone this Holiday Season!
